Video Index on lesson pages

Because of the discontinuation of the video search feature by Podia, a video index is added to lesson pages, to help navigate through videos.

This update is now being implemented and will be finished in the coming weeks. In the mean time you will find the index on some pages, until all pages have been updated.

See example below.

Search Video feature discontinued!

Podia has switched to a different video player.

Unfortunately the feature that allowed navigating through videos by searching through the subtitles is no longer supported by this player :(

New Member - Where to start?

Hi Matt,

I'm excited to join your community. I'm an older beginner/intermediate learner. I know my basic scales and chords. Have a good knowledge of the CAGED system. I would love to learn how to play/improvise using Smooth Jazz technics. Where would you advise me to start? Thanks, Jerry

Hi Jerry

If you really know your scales and jazz chords, you can skip the basics course and start with the 'Workout' and follow up with the Smooth Jazz Guitar Solos.

But I think you already made your choice, which looks like the right choice :)

Regards, Matt

Course Payment

Hi, I am new to the site. The content of the courses is intriguing. However, it appears I can only pay for a course via pay pal? I do not see an option for credit card. Please help. Thank you. Carla Clark

Hi Carla, there should be several payment options. However, if you only see Paypal, you can proceed to that option and then choose ''pay with credit card''. Then you can choose to not create a Paypal account when you pay.

I hope this helps.

Regards, Matt

Smooth Jazz Guitar Solos is online

Smooth Jazz Guitar Solos, with audio, video, full notation, and backing tracks.

Intermediate to advanced level.

The Jazz Guitar Improvisation Workout is online.

Previously known as the 'Jazz Guitar Improvisation Exercises and Examples', this is a multi-level training program designed to get you started with true jazz improvisation, by practicing and playing, like a workout.

Hi Matt, I purchased the jazz guitar improvisation CD several years ago. It includes tab and fretboard animation but it does not have you playing the exercises. I saw on your previous post that the online version might have a video of you playing it in addition to the fretboard animation. Is this correct?

Yes i have the V3....i thought the online version might have you playing the exercise in addition to the fretboard animation......anyway, it will be great if you can sell online some of your smooth jazz song with you playing + the fretboard animation and tab...... song such as Valerie, RB4,etc.....you can sell it per song, i will buy those (btw, i already have the refill DVD).

Full Screen Mode on mobile devices

Some browsers on mobile devices can show a 'full screen' symbol. If you use this you may lose the subtitle/search control in the purple bar. Use the 'full screen' symbol in the purple bar below the video instead.

The example below is taken from an Android phone with Samsung internet browser.

Jazz Guitar - The Basics is online

Jazz Guitar - The Basics is exactly what is says: it covers the basic knowledge and skill that you need getting started with jazz.

Jazz Guitar - The Basics (podia.com)

If you're a beginner, this is a good place to start, before going the intermediate level courses Talking Jazz Guitar, and Blues Forms for Jazz Guitar.

If you're asked to play an Eb major scale, can you do it, fluently, and without hesitation?
If you're asked to play a Gb Melodic minor scale, can you do it, fluently?
If you're asked to play an F7#5#9 chord, can you do it? Can you play two forms of this chord?
If you're asked to play an Cm11 chord, do you know it?
If you're asked to play over a basic progression of Bbm7, Cm7b5, F7#5, do you know what scale(s) to use?

If the answer to some of these question is ''NO'', this course is for you.
If the answers are YES, then check out Talking Jazz Guitar and Blues Forms for Jazz Guitar

After a lifetime playing as a self-taught beginner, a hobbyist, this can be a good opportunity to evolve in an organized way with a well-defined method and objectives! It's never too late...!

"Jazz Guitar Basics" is coming

For those for whom the entry level for the two available courses is still a bit too high, a new online course will start soon, with the very basics. The first version will focus on essential scales and jazz chords, and later it will be expanded to include improvisation techniques, and other advanced topics. So stay tuned!
